Meet Linda Bolton

I'd like for you all to meet a online friend of mine, Linda Bolton. She's a real neat lady, and she is guest blogging with me today to share a little about herself and how she got started writing.

It All Started...

What does a shy, over-weight high school poet and a middle-aged, extrovert, romance writing housewife have in common? They’re the same person. That’s right, they’re both me.

In high school, sitting dateless most Friday nights, I plugged away writing dark poetry. I found an outlet to show off my art in our school’s literary magazine. I joined the group, submitted my work and even won an award for one of my layouts.  I learned I wasn’t the only one stuck at home on the weekends. That, in it self, made me feel less alone.

The years went by and life took over; writing took a back seat way in the rear of the bus.  Between marriage, a child and moving around for my husband’s work, writing was the last thing I thought about. I still carried my collection of poems with me and I took them down to reminisce when I packed for our next move. But the urge to write wasn’t there.

Then, in my mid-forties, sitting at home in the evenings, I’d make up stories. Romances. The thought struck me...I should write these down. It flowed easy some days and harder others. Before I knew it my first book was finished. I’m sure your asking, “Are you published?” Not yet. I’m working on the dreaded synopsis but I’m going to get it finished and submit it. 

What happens next? More ideas, more books. The ideas flow. Its like I can’t control them sometimes. They just keep coming. You’re probably wondering, “That’s it? You just started writing?” Well, yes and no. I’ve been involved in creative projects my whole life - from the literary magazine to group writing projects in college to scrapbooking (yes, you have to write there too! I know...crazy thought!) Writing books was just one more step in the process.

A friend once made a comment that writing was hearing voices in your head. Its more like the characters are in there and they are dying to come out. You’re compelled to tell their story and you aren’t in control of where they will take you. I love it!
